AirBnb Donates to Pacific Cleanup
You’ve heard of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, right? It’s a massive collection of marine debris floating around the North Pacific Ocean. How massive? We’re talking an area three times the size of France. That massive!
No government has really stepped up to clean up the path, because it doesn’t fall in any country's jurisdiction. However, a Dutch nonprofit called The Ocean Cleanup has been working at cleaning it up since 2021. It’s a massive task, but they’ve so far removed nearly 440,000 pounds/220,000 kilograms out of the ocean.
The co-founder of Airbnb, Joe Gebbia, has recognised the monumental work being done by this company. He’s chimed in with a donation of $25-million to help them scale up to the largest and most cost effective ocean cleanup system ever created!

All About Carbon Sinks
It’s a term that you’ve probably heard getting thrown around in conversations about environmental sustainability. But do you know what a carbon sink is? (Hint: It’s not something you wash shredded paper in before composting!)
A carbon sink is basically a large natural system that absorbs and stores more carbon than it releases. Essentially they are nature’s way of balancing out the carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere through natural processes and human activities. An example of a carbon sink would be a forest, or an ocean or the soil.
Carbon sinks are becoming more and more important, because we’re generating far more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than we should be. Carbon dioxide is dangerously instrumental in global warming, so carbon sinks are essential in keeping a lid on this.
